{"id":278,"date":"2009-01-18T09:00:45","date_gmt":"2009-01-18T09:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.armagard.co.uk\/news\/?p=278"},"modified":"2024-07-08T13:20:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T13:20:16","slug":"nema-codes-explained","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.armagard.co.uk\/news\/nema-codes-explained\/","title":{"rendered":"NEMA Codes Explained"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When selecting an enclosure whether it is for an industrial computer or other type of electrical advice it is important to understand what protection it offers here is a list of the American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nema.org\/\">NEMA <\/a>codes that signify the protection the enclosures offer.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the most common <a href=\"https:\/\/www.industrial-computer-enclosure.co.uk\/NEMA4.htm\">NEMA codes<\/a> used in the industrial computer enclosure industry:<\/p>\n<p>Type 3R &#8211; Cabinet constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, and snow; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Type 4 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.industrial-computer-enclosure.co.uk\/NEMA4.htm\">NEMA 4 Computer enclosures<\/a> constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, and hose-directed water; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Type 4X &#8211; protection unit constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, hose-directed water, and corrosion; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Type 6 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armagard.co.uk\">PC Enclosures<\/a> constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt; against hose-directed water and the entry of water during occasional temporary submersion at a limited depth; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Type 6P &#8211; cabinet constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt; against hose-directed water and the entry of water during prolonged submersion at a limited depth; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p>Type 12 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armagard.com\">computer cabinet <\/a>constructed (without knockouts) for indoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment; to provide a degree of protection against falling dirt; against circulating dust, lint and fibres, and against dripping and light splashing of liquids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When selecting an enclosure whether it is for an industrial computer or other type of electrical advice it is important to understand what protection it offers here is a list of the American NEMA codes that signify the protection the enclosures offer.
