Rapiscan Security Products, a leading supplier of X-ray scanning equipment, is using customised PC enclosures from Armagard to protect its computerised operator consoles. Rapiscan systems - which are used Worldwide by airports, prisons, cargo, freight and logistics companies - can sometimes be deployed in locations that are not manned 24 hours per day, so tampering or even theft can be a significant risk. This is a more significant problem in certain overseas locations. Rapiscan's standard systems include a trolley-mounted monitor, keyboard and mouse which are connected to the computer inside the scanning equipment. The Rapiscan Secure workstation houses this equipment inside an Armagard PC Enclosure, customised specifically for the task. The keyboard, trackerball mouse device and additional control switches are built into an angled panel on the front of the enclosure. The unit is robust, secure, fan-cooled and dust-proof.

Using standard computer equipment protected by an enclosure, rather than an integral control panel, gives Rapiscan several advantages. Firstly, it can offer the added security feature as an option on new systems and as an upgrade to existing customers. Secondly, it provides freedom to change the specification, format or brand of computer equipment supplied.
